AutomotiveForums.com Exclusive - Interview with NISMO President
Auto Tag: AF NewsNice interview Igor. Sound like it went well and that you may have another sponsor for the AutomotiveForums race team.
A good interview and it's great to see that Sanada is keen on expanding Nissan's performance image in the states.
One minor quibble, though. The Aston Martins competing in Speed World Challenge are not the Le Mans GT1-spec Prodrive built DBR9's, but are in fact FIA GT3 spec Aston Martin built DBRS9's that compete in Europe against Viper Competition Coupes, Corvette Z06R's, Ferrari F430 Challenges, and Porsche 911GT3RS-Cup cars.
It is true, Sean, that the construction methods are similar between the two cars and that Prodrive had a hand in designing the GT3 spec DBRS9. After all, Ford doesn't want to spend money on the Premier Auto Group since it's hemorraging money quicker than MC Hammer.
However, ACO GT1 has a much more liberal modification ruleset compared to FIA GT3. GT1 allows entirely new suspension systems and components, relocation of pickup points, extensive widening, and extreme body modification. GT3 (which is very much like Speed World Challenge, save that instead of a spec DOT tire, they use an open slick formula) is incredibly restrictive, mandating parts that are practically copies of road-going components save where the rules state otherwise.
It's not to say that the DBRS9 isn't a formidable car in its own right. In fact, it's still rather impressive that the R34 has proven its match in race trim on occasion. However, the fact of the matter is that the DBRS9 and the DBR9 are two very different cars with two very differing levels of relevancy to the road-going Aston Martin.
The guys in green, they are with the factory team.
I don't know whats more impressive, Igors interview (way to get a NISMO drive in a year or two!!!) or the ultimate in easy to fix Aston's.
gotta love sanada-san's humor as well in the interview.
great work, igor!
Well, I hope to see Nissan or more specifically NISMO's presense if they get more leeway in the United States expotentially increase after the GTR-35 debut, since like Mr. Sanada said it will be the consumer that will ultimately benefit not to mention those who professionally race with them.
Perhaps this may even translate to a 2007 Sentra SE-R with forced induction from the factory, more NISMO parts for the entire Nissan lineup or an even tougher CVT tranny that can take allot more torque? I can always dream.
Btw, the Versa should also get some NISMO attention as well consider is built upon the same chassis as the tried and true as well as said to handle like its on rails Peugeot 205.
Hi all, Respect to you n for this site. Gonayete.
