Fan/serpentine belt help? 1999 lincoln

I recently purchased a fan belt today from kragen for my 1999 town car.

I have viewed the diagram and looped the belt as shown but it does not seem to fit. I am missing about an inch or less of belt.

Is there anything I can do to install my new fan belt? I read that the tension adjuster may help but I cannot seem to locate that.

I would take both belts and hold them up together and stretch them to see which one if any is longer. If the origional belt is longer, it can mean that the replacement could be the wrong length. Kepp in mind that it you could have 2 problems, and over stretched origional belt and the wrong length on the replacement. As far as the adjuster.. I never new they had one.

There is a tension pulley and without loosening the tension you will never get the new belt on. Without going out and looking - in the dark - I can't tell you just where it is but if you will look at the pulleys and find one that a 1/2 inch drive will fit in to - I use a breaker bar - and pull the pulley to loosen the belt, put it over the pulley and let the tensioner back up. Voila! All done.

If you can't find it let me know and tomorrow I will look and tell you exactly where it is - unless Towncar or JYD has already told you.

Thanks Steven. I knew you had the correct answers with pictures but sometimes you are off the forum for a couple of days.

Thank heaven for belt tensioners. I hope the guy that invented them is a multi-millionaire. I remember the days when you had to loosen the generater, later on alternator, put the belt on then pull the gen/alt away from the block with a bar of some type with one hand while tightening the bolt with the other. Yep, thank God for the tensioner!

I don't understand the number of posts because there are the same number numerous times. Also, the post Steven was talking about being 100 is now 102! ??? I wonder if it refers to the number of days you posted?

I don't understand the 'yellow' stars either. With 52 posts you have one yellow. With 102 I have two yellow. But...with 1,880 posts Steven only has five yellow stars.

I don't really pay much attention to the number of posts nor the number of yellow stars. I just post when I think I have something to add or to maybe help someone. Or, sometimes just to add a little of my very dry humor. ...especially when I'm seeing a lot of frustration
